Robert Pattinson Jokes That No One Was "Team Jacob" in TWILIGHT Fandom and Calls It "Just A Marketing Thing"
Twilight was not just a book series and set of films that followed. It was a full blown phenomenon that has remained a mainstay in pop culture, spawning a huge merchandising, and continuing to resonate with fans across the age groups.
So it makes sense that even 18 years after the first film’s release, Robert Pattinson is still fielding questions related to his portrayal of the character Edward Cullen.
In a recent interview with Canal+, which you can check out below, Pattinson and his The Drama co-star, Zendaya, were asked whether they were “Team Edward” or “Team Jacob.”
The Twilight stories centered around a love triangle between Edward, a vampire, Bella, a human, and Jacob, a werewolf. Both guys were into Bella, and despite her friendship with, and deep affection for Jacob, her heart belonged to Edward… but that did mean her becoming a vampire herself, and there were some messy ethical questions about her consenting to becoming undead as a teenager and Edward’s true age and some other red flaggy type stuff. She and Jacob were more conventional, despite his own transforming, but she and Edward were meant to be.
Pattinson agreed, and laughed at the question, stating "No one's Team Jacob. That was just a marketing thing." Zendaya confirmed that she was Team Edward as well, but the woman interviewing dropped the bomb that she had been Team Jacob. This seemed absurd to Pattinson, but it was a fun and playful exchange.
