Robert Pattinson Knows Fan Backlash for THE BATMAN Is Coming but His Harshest Critic Is Himself

When an actor takes on the role of a character like Batman, no matter who it is, they will be met with scrutiny. It’s just how fans are. So, when Robert Pattinson was cast in the role of Bruce Wayne in director Matt Reeve’s The Batman, it was no surprise to see a lot of fans lash out against him. But there are fans, like myself, that are willing to give him a chance and see what he brings to the character because he might bring something awesome to Batman!

Pattinson is well aware of the fan backlash that he knows he’ll receive and seeing the reactions online gave him a little Twilight PTSD. While talking to The Guardian, he said:

“I’m already remembering what it’s like to talk about a movie where there’s an expectation. Whenever you say anything, people are like, ‘Argh! You idiot!’ Like, dude, I haven’t even started yet!”

He goes on to say that while he knows there are a lot of people out there looking to criticize his work, they take a back seat to his harshest critic, which is himself.

“But there is no harsher critic of myself than myself, so I don’t need to worry about anyone else.”

Pattinson really wanted to play Batman, and when talking about why he wanted to play this character so badly, he said:

I felt a connection to it, I don’t know why, I just really wanted it. The role has a power which is why everyone is attracted to it. It’s an unidentifiable thing.”

Look, if the opportunity to play Batman came along, of course he was going to jump at the chance! He knew exactly what he was getting himself into when he took the role. I personally think he’s going to blow us away. With him and director Matt Reeves developing this new vision of the character, I can’t help but think it’s going to surprise a lot of people.
