Robert Pattinson Pokes Fun at Himself in His Early Role of Cedric Diggory in HARRY POTTER
Robert Pattinson is known for taking on edgier roles these days, but we all know he started out as a wizard and a vampire. The actor isn’t shy about these roles and the varying levels of shame he feels for playing them. While he was much younger, and Twilight is for sure a silly saga, I don’t know why he has contempt for his Harry Potter character. No one else does. But Pattinson says his methods back then were a little ridiculous, and he told GQ (via CinemaBlend) all about it, saying:
“I think I read a book on method acting. The only thing I really got out of it was beating yourself up before every single scene. That was basically my only concept for how to prepare for a scene. I was psyching myself up as if I was getting into a fight or something and just screaming into a pillow and fighting, punching myself and ripping my clothing.”
This method was tricky for the new actor, and the makeup crew working on him, as his prosthetic wounds would keep falling off his face due to the sweat he’d produce in his pre-scene flurry. He also went on to explain that his intensity spilled over into the way he’d hold his wand in the crazier scenes:
“I remember holding a wand and thinking that it felt so dorky to hold it like a magic wand, so I'm holding it like a gun with two hands, thinking I'm in, like, a Die Hard movie. I think I even have one eye closed when I'm looking down like it's got a viewfinder.”
Well, it may feel really juvenile to him now, but as a Harry Potter fan, I can attest that Cedric Diggory was a beloved character, so he must have done something right.
