Robert Pattinson Thought Matt Damon Was “A Complete Psycho” After Hearing Him Screaming in His Trailer on THE ODYSSEY Set
If you happened to walk past Matt Damon's trailer while he was filming The Odyssey, you probably would've been a little concerned.
That's exactly what happened to Robert Pattinson, who couldn't figure out why Damon kept yelling at the top of his lungs throughout the day. As it turns out, there was a very committed reason for all the chaos.
During an MTV U.K. interview, Pattinson shared a hilarious story from the set of Christopher Nolan's upcoming epic, revealing that Damon had everyone wondering what was going on after they kept hearing loud screams coming from his trailer.
“Matt was in the trailer next to me and he was making these noises. He is such a nice guy … I thought he was on the phone and I thought he was a complete psycho.
“He was just screaming and screaming and screaming. I thought he was having a really bad toilet experience. He was just blowing his voice out just to sound older. Like, really, you’re taking years off your life by doing this.”
Pattinson wasn't the only one wondering what was happening. Tom Holland also heard Damon's vocal warmups and later praised the actor's dedication, calling the unusual preparation "amazing."
Damon is taking on the role of the legendary Odysseus in Nolan's adaptation of The Odyssey, and it sounds like he's gone all in to bring the battle-scarred hero to life. Along with intentionally roughing up his voice, he also completely transformed physically for the role.
Earlier this year, Damon appeared on the New Heights podcast and revealed that Nolan wanted him lean while still looking powerful on screen.
“I lost a lot of weight. [Nolan] wanted me lean but strong. Just because of this other thing that I did with my doctor, I stopped eating gluten. I used to walk around at between 185 and 200, and I did that whole movie at 167. And I haven’t been that light since high school. So it was a lot of training and a really strict diet.”
It's an impressive change, especially considering Damon has gone in the opposite direction for previous roles. While preparing for 2009's The Informant!, the actor happily embraced a much different diet.
“The Oscar nominee gained 30 pounds for 2009’s The Informant by ‘eating like crazy and drinking dark beer, ‘Between meals on set, I’d eat a No. 1 Value Meal at McDonald’s and then Doritos on top of it. It was absolute heaven.’”
Fans won't have to wait much longer to see the results of all that dedication. The Odyssey sails into theaters on July 17 from Universal Pictures.
