Robert Pattinson’s Character in Christopher Nolan’s THE ODYSSEY Reportedly Revealed
As Christopher Nolan’s epic adaptation of The Odyssey continues filming across stunning locations in Favignana, Italy, a new report may have revealed Robert Pattinson’s role in the story.
According to the Italian magazine Chi, Pattinson is set to play Hermes, the fleet-footed messenger of the gods. If true, that would place him in a pivotal role in this grand retelling of Homer’s myth.
In Greek mythology, Hermes is also a trickster, a guide for souls to the underworld, and the patron of everything from language and sleep to thieves and travelers.
So far, only Matt Damon’s casting as Odysseus has been officially confirmed, but speculation has been swirling for months. Tom Holland is rumored to play Telemachus, Odysseus' son, with Zendaya stepping in as the goddess Athena.
A report from Greek media outlet OneMan.com has suggested an even wider mythological roster. If the report pans out, Charlize Theron will bring to life the sorceress Circe, Anne Hathaway will portray Penelope, Odysseus' long-suffering wife, while Benny Safdie and Lupita Nyong’o are tapped for the roles of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra, respectively.
Universal Pictures previously said: “Christopher Nolan’s next film The Odyssey is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand-new IMAX film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.”
The original poem, believed to be written in the 8th century BCE, chronicles Odysseus’ long journey home after the Trojan War and it is filled with deadly creatures, vengeful gods, and mythical traps.
It’s been reimagined countless times, from the silent 1911 film by Giuseppe de Liguoro to Kirk Douglas' film in Ulysses (1954). Even the Coen Brothers got in on the action with their fantastic 2000 comedy O Brother, Where Art Thou?. More recently, 2024’s The Return, starring Ralph Fiennes, offered another spin.
The Odyssey is due for release in theaters on July 17, 2026.
