Robert Redford In Talks to Join Disney's PETE'S DRAGON
Disney is looking to cast Robert Redford in their live-action adaptation of Pete's Dragon. The legendary actor is currently in talks with the studio to join the film, which is being directed by David Lowery, who helmed the independent crime movie Ain’t Them Bodies Saints. If cast, Redford will join the two young actors previously cast: Oakes Fegley (Boardwalk Empire), who will play Pete in the story, and Oona Laurence, who will play Pete's friend.
THR also offers some new story details for the movie, saying, "While the original was set in a fishing village at the turn of the 20th century, the new story is set against the backdrop of loggers cutting down a forest. Pete is a boy whose parents died in car crash, and has been subsequently raised by Elliot, the titular dragon in the threatened forest."
They stor also features characters such as a forest ranger who finds Pete, the young daughter of the mill owner (Laurence), and the greedy brother of the mill owner. If Redford is cast in the movie he will play "a local who tells tall-tales involving dragons that no one believes."
The project will be a live-action film with a CGI dragon. The movie is scheduled to start shooting in New Zealand this fall. Hopefully the talent involved with the movie will give fans of the original something they will enjoy.
