Robert Rodriguez Is Developing a Sequel to WE CAN BE HEROES for Netflix
Robert Rodriquez’s latest Netflix film We Can Be Heroes ended up being a big hit for the streaming service with 44 million households tuning in to watch it over the holidays. The family adventure superhero film, which also acts as a spiritual sequel to Sharkboy and Lavagirl, is one of Netflix’s biggest hits.
So it should come a a surprise that Netflix has greenlit a sequel, and Rodriguez will return to write and direct it. My 13-year-old daughter was super excited about the first film. I haven’t seen it myself yet, but after my daughter watched it, she told me she didn’t like it. When I told her they were making a sequel, she told me she didn’t care, which is the typical teenage answer that I get a lot these days.
We Can Be Heroes featured the return of Taylor Dooley as Lava Girl and JJ Dashnaw taking over as Sharkboy. The rest of the cast included YaYa Gosselin (The Purge), Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian), Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Quantico), Christian Slater (Mr. Robot), Boyd Holbrook (Logan), and Christopher McDonald (Ballers).
Here’s the synopsis:
When alien invaders kidnap Earth's superheroes, their kids are whisked away to a government safe house. But whip-smart tween Missy Moreno (Gosselin) will stop at nothing to rescue her superhero dad, Marcus Moreno (Pascal). Missy teams up with the rest of the superkids to escape their mysterious government babysitter, Ms. Granada (Jonas). If they're going to save their parents, they'll have to work together by using their individual powers — from elasticity to time control to predicting the future — and form an out-of-this-world team. Full of action and heart.
