Robert Rodriguez Made ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL Just For James Cameron in The Style of James Cameron

Alita: Battle Angel was such an awesome and badass sci-fi action movie! I loved it and the wild style that it has. I especially enjoyed the style of the main character, who was so wonderfully played by Rosa Salazar. Seeing those big manga-style eyes in a real-life setting was so cool and unique and they did it so well. The VFX used to help bring this movie to life was very impressive.

While a lot of people enjoyed the movie and were impressed by what it delivered, there was only one person that director Robert Rodriguez set out to impress when making this movie, and that person was producer James Cameron. Rodriguez explained in an interview with The Irish Times:

"We did worry about how it would all fit together. We kept the line in there that she wasn't completely human. Because even a few years ago, we couldn't have made her look like she does... I wasn't making a movie for Fox. I was making it for Jim. And Jim and I are buddies. So if we liked it, that's what we did. I felt like I had my own Terminator with me to protect me. It was pretty much like working on an independent film."

One of the other things that Cameron did to make this film the best movie it could be was to not make it a Robert Rodriguez film. He wanted to make it a James Cameron film in the style of James Cameron, so he had to channel Cameron and his filmmaking style when making this movie. The director said:

"Jim Cameron comes from the same place as me. He comes from genre. It's just that he has expanded out and into this whole other thing. He doesn't make typical Hollywood films either. Look how long Titanic spends on the characters before anyone even mentions an iceberg...So for this film, I had to think like I was making a James Cameron movie; I couldn't make it like a Robert Rodriguez movie."

Whatever Rodriguez did to make this movie, it worked! He delivered one hell of a great film and it totally did feel like a James Cameron movie! Rodriguez managed to bring Cameron’s vision to life in incredible, cool, and unique ways. Alita: Battle Angel is one of the best films that Rodriguez has made in years, and it’s kind of funny that he had to tap into the creative mind of Cameron to be able to pull it off.

It’s a shame that we’ll probably never see that sequel get made.
