Robert Zemeckis Looking to Direct a Sci-Fi Astronaut Thriller Titled ARES

Robert Zemeckis, the filmmaker who brought us Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, Cast Away, Contact, and more, is looking to direct a new sci-fi film at Warner Bros. It’s an astronaut thriller titled Ares, which is an original story being written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who previously wrote the DC Comics adaptation Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

According to Deadline, the story follows “an astronaut who survives his space capsule’s crash landing in an African desert but begins to suspect his mission was in service of a conspiracy that hides a secret with world-changing ramifications.”

Yeah, I’d say that certainly sounds like the kind of story that Zemeckis would love to tell. That brief plot summary above includes a combination of a lot of little things from projects that he’s previously worked on. This is a perfect film project for him, and I’d love to see what he does with it!

Does this sound like a film project you might enjoy?
