Robert Zemeckis to Direct MARWENCOL wants Leonardo DiCaprio to Star

It looks like director Robert Zemeckis is lining up his next film project, and it's going to be a good one. The movie is called Marwencol, and it's based on a documentary of the same name released back in 2010. It's based on the true story of Mark Hogancamp, who suffered severe head trauma after being beaten outside of a bar by a group of teenagers. He was in a nine day coma, and when he woke up he had no memory of his life, his friends or his family.

To cope with what had happened to him, and as therapy to help mend his mind, he started building a 1/6 scale model of a Belgian village set in World War II in his backyard. The figures represent himself, his friends, and the even the boys that beat him up. It also helps him escape into a kind of fantasy world. Zemeckis wants Leonardo DiCaprio to play the lead role, which would be a great project for him to be involved with. I would love to see DiCaprio work with Zemeckis!

If you haven't seen the documentary yet, it'd definitely a must watch. Caroline Thompson is writing the script. She also co-wrote Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas. The movie will be a mix of fantasy and reality, so this is a great team of talent to bring the story to life.

DiCaprio has yet to commit to his next film but is currently looking at joining Warner Bros.' The Brotherhoods and an untitled Napoleon biopic. Marwencol has the potential to be an amazing project for him to. It will be interesting to see what he ends up choosing.
