ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY Almost Featured Darth Vader Wreaking Havoc on The Beach
One of the most epic and memorable scenes from director Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is when Darth Vader showed up to brutally tear through one Rebel after another during the final few minutes of the film. The reaction from the fans during this sequence of events was thrilling and so much fun!
Well, it turns out there was another scene in the film that was nearly included that would have been awesome to see as well. In an earlier draft of the script, Vader was going to see himself battling a much larger army of Rebels on the beaches of Scarif. The info came from the film’s screenwriter Gary Whitta, who said in a tweet:
Rebel ground troops bunkered in around the Imperial comms tower on Scarif, stormtroopers can’t break through to get to Jyn who’s on her way to transmit plans. Vader says “put me on that beach.” Carnage ensues. You ended up seeing something like that in the corridor scene though.
I would have seriously loved to see that sequence of events play out! I’m sure that the creative team has their reasons for not including it, but damn… I can only imagine how badass that sequence would have been!
Before the final act of the film was reworked, the original version featured the heroes racing across the beaches of Scarif while the Empire's forces waged war on them. That all changed, though, and the action all ended up on the satellite tower.
As much as I loved Rogue One, I would have liked to see how this alternate version of the film would have played out. How about you?
