ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY Trailer Breakdown and 36 Screenshots

Lucasfilm released the first teaser trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and I couldn't be happier with what I saw. If you haven't had a chance to watch it yet, click here! The movie looks pretty incredible, and I think fans of the original trilogy are going to have a blast with this film. I love that the film is set prior to the events of Star Wars: A New Hope and that it involves an elite team of rebels who are sent on a mission to obtain the plans of the Death Star.

There are a lot of extremely cool little things to point out in this trailer, so I have a set of 36 screenshots for you to check out. I also wanted to talk about some cool things that the trailer had to offer.

First of all, it was a nostalgic explosion! We learn that Felicity Jones' character name is Jyn Erso, and it was such a treat to see her meet with Mon Mothma. Mothma is the primary political leader of the Rebel Alliance. On the way to meeting her Jyn walks through a base with a classic X-Wing in the background, and the pilots are sporting the classic orange flight suit. The trailer perfectly establishes that this is Star Wars and fans like myself immediately feel at home.

Then there are the Death Star moments! The shots featuring it and the Imperial-class Star Destroyers were incredible, and they seemed to have a classic practical and model type feel to them, which I loved. The nostalgic cylinders were exploding in my brain at this point.

As for Ben Mendelsohn's character, we still don't know exactly who he is playing but he is wearing a Grand Admiral type cloak. We see a couple of shots of him, one in which he is ominously standing in true villain fashion. The other shot features him walking through a battlefield with lots of dead Stormtroopers.

We also get a taste of Donnie Yen's character kicking some ass with his crazy impressive martial arts skills. The trailer doesn't reveal who he is, but we know he's a badass. In his short clip we see him brutally take down a Stormtrooper. The Empire doesn't stand a chance against this guy!

At the end of the trailer, a group of Rebel fighters storm a beach, and they are being attacked by a squad of AT-ATs! This is an extremely awesome jaw-dropping moment in the trailer, and it doesn't look good for the Rebellion.

Now you can check out the collection of screenshots below. After you're done looking them over, make sure to tell us what you think in the comments. Is there anything else in the trailer that I missed? Do you have any speculation on who Mendelsohn is playing in the film?

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be released on December 16th, 2016. As much as I loved Star Wars: The Force Awakens, I think this could end up being a better film. I can't wait to watch it!
