ROGUE ONE Is Getting a Sequel Novel Called STAR WARS: INFERNO SQUAD

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has already said that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was a standalone film and that it wouldn’t be getting a sequel. For those of you who saw the movie, you know (SPOILER!) a sequel involving all of the main characters would be very difficult to do unless they all came back as zombies.

Technically, the sequel to Rogue One is A New Hope, but there's going to be another sequel coming in the form a novel called Star Wars: Inferno Squad. This new Star Wars story is set directly after the events of Rogue One, which means it takes place concurrently with what is happening in A New Hope

Inferno Squad follows the story of “an elite Imperial squad and their mission following the events of Rogue One.” You can check out the official plot description below:

You don’t steal plans to the Death Star without making the Empire angry. We’ll learn how angry very soon. The Rebellion may have heroes like Jyn Erso and Luke Skywalker. But the Empire has Inferno Squad. After the humiliating theft of the Death Star plans and the resulting destruction of the battle station, the Empire is on the defensive. In response to this stunning defeat, the Imperial Navy has authorized the formation of an elite team of soldiers, known as Inferno Squad. Their mission: infiltrate and eliminate the remnants of Saw Gerrera’s Partisans. Following the death of their leader, the Partisans have carried on his extremist legacy, determined to thwart the Empire — no matter what the cost. Now, Inferno Squad must prove their status as the best of the best and take down the Partisans from within. But as the danger intensifies and the threat of discovery grows, how far will Inferno Squad go to ensure the safety of the Empire?

Sounds like a great story that I look forward to reading. Rogue One was such a great film, and the fact that we will get a new story that spawned from it is pretty awesome, especially because I wasn’t expecting it. The book was written by Christie Golden and is set to be released on July 25th, 2017. I seriously doubt it will be adapted into a film.
