ROGUE ONE Star Ben Mendelsohn Wants To Play Doctor Doom and He Explains What Makes The Villain So Great
As you know, Fargo and Legion series creator Noah Hawley is currently developing a Doctor Doom movie for FOX. I'm sure there are a lot of actors out there that would be great to see play the Marvel villain, but there's one actor that would be incredible as Victor Von Doom and that actor is Ben Mendelsohn.
Mendelsohn played the villain in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the Netflix series Bloodline, he's playing the villain in Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One, and he's going to play the villain in Captain Marvel. The guy is an incredible actor and the fact that he actually wants to play Doctor Doom is awesome!
During a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Mendelsohn talked about the character and explains what makes him one of the greatest comic book characters of all time:
“[He] is the greatest comic character of all time," Mendelsohn said. "The thing that's really appealing about Victor is the damage and trauma, the loss of the family, the wrong done to him, then the revenge and the takeover. Then it's the protectiveness of Latveria wrapped in that Cold War vibe. What actually makes him great is his caring bit. That's what's great about Doctor Doom, and I just like him!"
While they were on the subject, Noah Hawley's Doctor Doom film project was brought up and Mendelsohn was quick to let the host know that he is well aware of the project saying, "Oh yeah, I'm aware of all this."
It's been previously revealed that Dan Stevens (Legion) is involved with the film project in some way, but we have no idea what his role in the project is at this point. Obviously, some fans speculate that he could end up playing Doctor Doom, but I'll be honest, I like the idea of Mendelshon playing the character more.
What do you think? Would you want to see Mendelson take on the role of Doctor Doom?
