Roland Emmerich Says Marvel and DC Films Are Ruining The Film Industry

Well, director Roland Emmerich is making it very clear that he isn't a fan of the superhero movies that are coming from Marvel Studios and DC Entertainment. In fact, he says those films are ruining the industry. During an interview with Den of Geek, he said:

"Because naturally Marvel and DC Comics, and Star Wars have pretty much taken over. It’s ruining our industry a little bit, because nobody does anything original anymore."

Yeah, because his world destruction disaster movies are so special and they are doing so much for the film industry. He goes on to say:

"You should make bold new movies, you know? And I think, actually, Christopher Nolan is the master of that. He is someone who can make movies about whatever he wants. I have it a little bit harder, but I still have a big enough name – especially when it’s a disaster [movie] or has some sort of disaster theme."

I’ll take a good comic book movie over one of Roland Emmerich’s disaster films any day. Most of these comic book films being made are telling great stories and that’s all that matters. It’s because of these films that studios have the extra money to pump into smaller projects and they are helping keep the movie theaters alive and well.

Look, I’m a fan of all movies and all kinds of different genres and I’m seeing all kinds of films being made these days, not just comic book movies, so I don’t know what Emmerich is talking about. What do you think?
