Roll20 and OneBookShelf Officially Join Forces!

Roughly two weeks ago, Roll20 and OneBookShelf announced that they were going to be joining forces. This would mark official support for items from sites like DriveThru RPG and DMs Guild in the popular virtual tabletop (VTT). Today is the day of unity! The two companies are forming a joint venture. The combined power will take some time to be fully in effect, but know that over the coming weeks, Roll20 will be adding PDF support so that you can upload, read, share, and play games using any PDF you want in the VTT. That is big news in and of itself, but there’s more. Eventually, the joint venture will have OneBookShelf PDF libraries accessible within Roll20 for a more pleasant customer experience and those PDFs won’t count towards your Roll20 storage quotas! This is absolutely fantastic and I cannot wait for this better integration. Adding unofficial supplements to RPG campaigns will be so much nicer and hopefully more commonplace with this.

Talking about the opportunity, Roll20’s CEO Ankit Lal said:

Joining forces with OneBookShelf creates the best place to purchase, peruse, and play TTRPGs online, period. Since 2012, Roll20 has been the industry leader in virtual tabletop gaming, hosting content from some of the biggest publishers in the space, including Wizards of the Coast, Paizo, and Chaosium. With this deal, we gain significant progress on several of our user promises that dramatically improve the VTT, and will work together to continue adding new and exciting features to our already industry-leading platform.

Stephan Wieck, CEO of OneBookShelf, added:

Our mission from the get-go has always been to make it easier for publishers and creators to reach a wider audience of roleplaying fans. By combining forces with Roll20, we empower game makers to present content across a wider variety of formats, whether character creators, virtual tabletop, digital editions, or print. Customers will be able to support their favorite games, in any format they desire, with one economical purchase, and they will be able to use their content on roleplaying’s most trusted platform.

Following this deal, Wieck will join Roll20’s Board of Directors and executive team while Lal continues as CEO. Are you excited for this development?
