Roll20 is Getting a Very Welcome Redesign
Roll20 is getting a redesign! For the past several years, Roll20 has been a great tool and virtual tabletop for tabletop gamers to enjoy. However, it always felt pretty bland and sometimes a little too simple in my opinion. Recently, the team announced that Roll20 will be undergoing a redesign based on user experience and the first changes will be the left-hand toolbar and the layer system. This is so exciting!
Below you can find a video where CTO Morgan Buck teases some of the things coming including that layer system change. This has happened to me and some of my GMs and I’m willing it has happened to you. The GM goes to add a token or wants to move a token to a different layer and cannot figure out why what they want to do is not working correctly. In short, it’s because the GM is on the wrong layer for what they want to do. Roll20 does not currently do a great job of letting you know what layer you are working on. This is one change that will be very welcome!
You can find out more about the changes on the official website, but here’s a quick breakdown of the FAQs. You’ll be able to opt-in for the redesign at the end of May (you will be able to opt-out if you don’t like it). Once the opt-in is live, a feedback form will be sent out to gather comments. This redesign is for everyone, not just subscribers.
What do you think about this redesign? What parts of Roll20 do you hope to see get a redesign?
