Ron Howard Confirms WILLOW Sequel Talks and Shares Story Details

Back in 1988 producer George Lucas and director Ron Howard released the fantasy film Willow, which is one of my favorite films from the 80s. I have fond memories of that film and it's a world that I wouldn't mind revisiting in a sequel. Howard has teased a Willow sequel in the past, but now he's confirmed that there have actually been discussions on making it a reality!

While talking to CB, Howard also reveals that the story for the sequel would focus on the character Elora Danan, the infant that Willow (Warwick Davis) comes across in the original film. He explains:

"I don't want to give away too much, but there is a little talk of Willow. We wouldn't call it Willow 2, I think it would focus a lot on Elora Danan, although Willow would have to be significantly involved."

Just in case you don't remember, it was prophesied that Elora would destroy the evil Queen Bavmorda. While on his journey, Willow meets and reluctantly teams up with the swordsman Madmartigan (Val Kilmer) to help keep the child from Bavmorda's evil forces.

Howard went on to talk about how he thought about Willow while shooting Solo: A Star Wars Story, and explains why:

"I thought about that movie a lot as I was working on Solo because there are certain scenes, especially around some of the Madmartigan stuff, was reminiscent of a character with that kind of swagger and bravado. And also some of the humor around some of the action in Willow was something I inspired to get into Solo."

Having seen Solo, I can totally see the influence now that he says that. Obviously, a Willow sequel isn't set in stone yet, but I really do hope that the project actually moves forward and into production. I would be so excited to see a sequel to Willow!

With all of the 80s remakes and reboots happening these days, it seems like there a good chance that it could happen.
