Ron Howard Drama THIRTEEN LIVES Focuses on 2018 Thai Cave Rescue; Aggressively Sought After by Studios
In 2018, a group of young boys who belonged to a soccer team in Thailand went on a little adventure into a cave with their assistant coach after practice. Once inside, heavy rains flooded the cave and blocked their way out.
After many attempts to escape, and many attempts to rescue the group, including the death of one retired Navy SEAL whose oxygen ran out during the attempt, they were finally rescued, all alive, but in need of medical care, as they’d been underground and without basic necessities for over two weeks. It was a harrowing story that I remember watching on the news as it happened.
There are a few different people trying to make a movie out of this story, including the makers of Free Solo and National Geographic, who want to turn the story into a documentary, but the most appealing team to pitch their version of the true tale are director Ron Howard (Apollo 13, Cinderella Man) and writer William Nicholson (Gladiator, Unbroken).
The film, Thirteen Lives, is currently being shopped by the major studios who are eager to bid on what will undoubtedly be an exciting and inspiring film with Howard and Nicholson on board.
