Ron Howard Offers an Update on Lucasfilm's WILLOW Sequel Series - "It's in Serious Development"
A few weeks ago writer Jonathan Kasdan (Solo) revealed that a writer’s room had been opened up to start working on Lucasfilm’s Willow sequel series. The show is in active development, but it still has yet to receive a green light from Disney.
The director of the original film, Ron Howard, recently offered an update on the project saying the scripts have been written, but there’s still no green light. He tells Variety:
“We’re working on it, it’s not greenlit, but I was just on the phone today discussing it with Jonathan who has written the scripts. It’s in serious development, but there’s nothing to announce quite yet.”
If the series does get the green light it will air on Disney+. It’d seriously be a stupid decision not to move forward with this show! The film has such a strong fan base and fans like myself would absolutely love to see Warwick Davis back in the role of Willow and get caught up with him after all these years. Howard went on to confirm that Davis is on board, saying:
“If it happens, Warwick will definitely be a part of it.”
Howard previously talked about the concept of developing a Willow sequel series, saying, “I think it’d be a great way to go. In fact, George always talked about the possibility of a Willow series, and it’d be great and more intimate, and built around that character and some of the others. And Jon Kasdan has, I think, an inspired take on it and it could be really, really cool.”
Well, hopefully we get an official announcement soon! This is a series that I want to see happen so bad!
