Ron Howard Offers Optimistic Update on WILLOW Sequel Series
Ron Howard and Jon Kasdan have been hard at work developing a sequel series to Lucasfilm’s classic fantasy adventure film Willow for several months. The development is in full swing with a writer’s room and everything.
Well, Howard recently appeared on Andy Cohen's Sirius XM show, Radio Andy, and he offered an optimistic update on the project which is still very much in active development. While lots of fans are excited for the series, which is being developed for Disney+, the studio has yet to give it the greenlight. However, Howard expresses his excitement for what’s been done on the project so far:
"I was in a two-hour story meeting last night. The writer, Jon Kasdan is leading the charge. They have a great group of writers and it's in very active development. The scripts are going great. So, they have to get through the season and the budget. And so forth, there's no green light there yet, but I'm very optimistic about it. I love his take on it."
It’s going to be cool to see what Kasdan’s take on the sequel will be, but we do know for a fact that Warwick Davis will be reprising his role in the series. Everyone involved with the project is super excited to be revisiting this world and there’s a lot of passion behind it.
Howard previously talked about the concept of developing a Willow sequel series, saying, “I think it’d be a great way to go. In fact, George always talked about the possibility of a Willow series, and it’d be great and more intimate, and built around that character and some of the others. And Jon Kasdan has, I think, an inspired take on it and it could be really, really cool.”
The filmmaker also previously said that the series would explore a “more mature Willow.” He also said, “Warwick is so cool and so good and he’s such a good actor that I really hope we get the chance to see the mature Willow in action.”
While it seems like we still have a long way to go before we see this Willow sequel series happen, at least right now it’s moving forward and there’s a good chance that it will get the greenlight that fans are hoping for.
