Ron Howard Says Talk of a SOLO 2 Movie Is Entirely Fan-Driven and Not a Lucasfilm Priority

Rumors of a sequel to Solo: A Star Wars Story have been swirling since the 2018 film hit theaters. The film’s writers Jonathan Kasdan and Lawrence Kasdan have talked, even as recently as two weeks ago, about the idea of a sequel movie, but the director of the movie, Ron Howard, is officially shutting those rumors down.

In a recent interview with NME, Howard explained:

“The only discussion that I’m aware of about a sequel for Solo is coming from the fans at this point. I don’t think it’s a Lucasfilm priority, as I understand it.

While this was pretty stern, he went on to add:

But there’s some great characters launched, and the folks from Lucasfilm love the fans and really do listen so I would never say never – but I’m not aware of any concrete plans right now to extend the story or deal with that particular set of characters.”

So it’s concrete for now, but hopeful for the future. I thought that Solo was a fun movie, and I wouldn’t mind seeing the cast and crew back to make another one. What about you? Are you hopeful for another Solo film, or would you rather see other stories explored?
