Ron Perlman Joins Lily James and Jack Reynor in Amazon MGM’s Horror Film SEASONS
Ron Perlman is heading back into horror, and this one sounds like it could get wonderfully nasty.
The Hellboy star has joined Lily James and Jack Reynor in Seasons, the new Amazon MGM Studios horror film from Drew Hancock, who follows up his feature directorial debut Companion with a story involving an isolated ranch, ancient spirits, and some seriously disturbing seasonal rituals.
Details surrounding Perlman’s character are currently being kept secret, so we don’t know whether he’ll be helping the central couple survive their nightmare or making their situation considerably worse. Either option sounds like a pretty good use of Perlman.
Seasons is based on a viral horror short story written by Matt Query and Harrison Query. The story originally appeared on Reddit before eventually being expanded into a full-length novel.
The story follows a husband and wife who purchase what they believe will be their dream ranch. Unfortunately, the property comes with something that definitely wasn’t included in the listing.
The land is inhabited by ancient spirits, and surviving there requires the couple to participate in increasingly disturbing rituals as the seasons change.
It’s a great horror concept, especially with Hancock adapting the material. Companion showed that the filmmaker has a knack for taking a seemingly straightforward premise and pushing it into some strange, dark, and entertaining territory. Giving him ancient supernatural forces and a couple trapped on their own land offers plenty of room to get weird.
Shawn Levy and Dan Levine are producing through 21 Laps alongside James Wan and Michael Clear of Blumhouse Atomic Monster, as well as Scott Glassgold and Dan Cohen of 12:01 Films.
Perlman is a particularly cool addition to the cast. He’s spent decades bouncing between fantasy, horror, action, and comic book projects, and his unmistakable screen presence feels right at home in a story about a ranch controlled by ancient supernatural forces.
The actor can also be seen alongside Javier Bardem in Apple TV’s Cape Fear series, which is executive produced by Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.
