Ron Perlman Says That He Was Asked To Return For The HELLBOY Reboot
Ron Perlman recently shared an interesting bit of information that Hellboy fans might be interested in learning. The actor reveals that he was asked to return for the Hellboy reboot to reprise his role, but he ended up turning down the offer because director Guillermo del Toro wasn’t involved.
During an interview with Comic Book Movie, Perlman said:
“The only thing that’s stopping the third Hellboy film is the fact that Guillermo [del Toro] is one of the busiest guys in the business. The reboot was something I had the opportunity to participate in and decided that the only version of Hellboy I’m interested in is the one I do with Guillermo and so in walking away from it I truly walked away from it, and haven’t seen it or heard much about it. I wished them well, but it was not in my bailiwick.”
I don’t blame him for not doing it! The guy dodged a bullet! The movie was plagued with behind-the-scenes issues and it ended up being a shit-show of a film. It’s a bummer because while I liked David Harbour in the role of Hellboy, the movie was just a complete mess.
If you’ve never seen it, don’t waste your time. I just like the fact that Perlman is loyal to his friend and Hellboy collaborator Guillermo del Toro. They should have just been given the opportunity to make their third Hellboy movie! Perlman still holds out hope for that third film, telling CB:
"There's always a little ember, that lives deep within me, that says maybe one day Guillermo will wake up and go, 'You know what? Fuck, we need to finish this trilogy.’”
It’ll probably never happen, but who knows?
