Ronald D. Moore Says The Cylons in BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Never Had a Plan

Do you all remember how every episode of Ronald D. Moore's SyFy series Battlestar Galactica series started out? Here's a reminder:

“The Cylons were created by man. They rebelled. They evolved. There are many copies. And they have a plan.”

Well, turns out that the Cylons never had a plan! Moore recently showed up at the ATX Television Festival with several other members of the cast of the classic series to talk about it. According to The Los Angeles Times, who was in attendance, Moore revealed that the Cylons had no plan, and the only reason that they used that text at the beginning of the show was because it sounded cool.

Moore said this was, essentially, just something co-executive producer David Eick thought sounded cool, that audiences would love and that they could figure out later. They never did and, said Moore, “For the next 14 years of my life people have asked me ‘What was the plan?’” In short, “There was no… plan.”

So there ya go. I don't know if the series would have been better or worse if the Cylons did have a plan. But, who knows, maybe if the Cylons did have a clear plan, the series finale would have made a little more sense for some people. That season finale seemed to have a lot of people scratching their heads. Regardless, Battlestar Galactica is one of my favorite shows, and as a whole, I enjoyed the hell out of it. It is kinda weird to hear that the Cylons never had a plan, though.
