Ronda Rousey's ROAD HOUSE Remake Reaps Romcom Ringleader
(Please excuse the headline. After I typed the first five words, I couldn't help but continue the alliteration.)
We know that UFC champion, Entourage and Furious 7 alum, and all-around badass Ronda Rousey is going to be stepping into Patrick Swayze's bouncer role in a remake of Road House, but I feared it sounded like it may be one of those projects that gets announced, but never actually gets off the ground. Now we know that's not the case, as Variety reports the movie has officially found a writer/director...but it's sort of a strange choice.
Did you know that the same guy directed the hospital thriller John Q, the gritty kidnapping film Alpha Dog, the Kate Upton/Cameron Diaz comedy The Other Woman, and one of the most famous romantic dramas of all time, The Notebook? That person is Nick Cassavetes, and he's been tapped as the perhaps unlikely choice to write and direct Rousey's Road House. The studio apparently liked his ability to write for female characters, and while he may be lacking traditional action experience, the first film didn't exactly stand out for its visuals, so this will likely be an improvement in that regard.
The filmmakers are planning an early 2016 start for the production, getting fully underway after Rousey's upcoming fight in November. Are you planning on watching Rousey kick some ass — and maybe rip some throats, if she takes a cue from Swayze — in the Road House remake?
