Rooster Teeth Is Making a Comeback with Original Creator Burnie Burns Leading the Charge

Nine months ago, Rooster Teeth announced it was shutting down after 21 years of pioneering online entertainment. It was the end of an era… or so we thought.

Today, the Rooster Teeth is back in the hands of its original creator, Burnie Burns, who has officially acquired Rooster Teeth and much of its remaining assets through his independent company, Box Canyon Productions.

Burns, who co-founded Rooster Teeth in 2003, built the company from the ground up with the breakout success of Red vs. Blue, the longest-running web series in history.

What started as a small group of friends making machinima content quickly evolved into a media powerhouse, producing fan-favorite shows like RWBY, Achievement Hunter, and the RTX convention series.

But over the years, as the company changed hands under various corporate owners, and the Rooster Teeth many fans knew and loved started to fade. Now, Burns is stepping in to restore its original creative spark.

Burns said: “I am excited at the challenge of bringing Rooster Teeth back to its roots. The heart of this brand has always been its fans, and I look forward to writing a new chapter together.”

That fan-first mentality was what made Rooster Teeth such a force in entertainment. It wasn’t just about making content, it was about fostering a community. And with Burns back at the helm, there’s a renewed commitment to the DIY, creator-driven energy that put Rooster Teeth on the map.

As part of this new chapter, Box Canyon Productions has already announced a slate of projects for 2025. This includes revivals of classic Rooster Teeth shows, a brand-new original audio adventure called Again, and a reimagining of Burns’ first film, The Schedule.

The return of Rooster Teeth under Burns’ leadership is a chance to recapture what made it special in the first place. This is wonderful news!
