Rorschach From WATCHMEN Is Getting His Own Solo DC Comics Series and Here's a Preview
The fan-favorite Watchmen character Rorschach, created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, is getting his very own DC Comics solo series from Tom King and Jorge Fornés.
The story for the 12-issue series is set 35 years after the end of the original Watchmen limited series, after Rorschach was killed by Dr. Manhattan. The series is set in a world that has distrust in superheroes, but it also celebrates Rorschach as "a cultural icon" due to his actions. But, the thing that this comic will explore is that he wasn’t a hero. The announcement states, “Rorschach may have spoken truth, but he wasn't a hero.”
DC's synopsis for the series reads:
So what does it mean when Rorschach reappears as part of a pair of assassins trying to kill the first candidate to oppose President Robert Redford in decades? Follow one determined detective as he walks backward in time, uncovering the identities and motives of the would-be killers, taking him deep into a dark conspiracy of alien invasions, disgraced do-gooders, mystical visions, and yes, comic books."
As you know, HBO’s Watchmen series re-examined the actions of Rorschach and framed the character as unheroic. This comic is going to do something similar. King said in a statement:
"Like the HBO Watchmen show and very much like the original ‘86 Watchmen, this is a very political work. It’s an angry work. We’re so angry all the time now. We have to do something with that anger. It’s called Rorschach not because of the character Rorschach, but because what you see in these characters tells you more about yourself than about them."
The new series is set to be released on October 13th as an adults only 17+ title through DC's Black Label. Here’s a preview of the comic that was shared. Does this sound like a comic series that you’d want to pick up to read? I’m curious to see how exactly this story will play out.
