Rosie Perez Cast as Renee Montoya in DC's BIRDS OF PREY
Rosie Perez has been cast in the role of Renee Montoya in DC’s upcoming film Birds of Prey. She joins the previously cast Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, and Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary.
Montoya is an openly gay detective who works for the Gotham City Police Department. In the New 52 comics, she took on a costumed identity, becoming the Question.
I was hoping to see Justina Machado (Six Feet Under) get the role, but Perez is definitely the bigger name. I’ve just personally never really been a fan of Perez’s work. But, she has a fan base and maybe this will end up being a good role for her.
Cathy Yan is directing Birds of Prey which has been described as an “R-rated girl gang film” with the following synopsis:
After splitting up with The Joker, Harley Quinn and three other female superheroes – Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya – come together to save the life of a little girl (Cassandra Cain) from an evil crime lord.
Black Mask has been said to be the main villain of the film as well. Birds of Prey is currently slated to release February 7, 2020.
