Ruby Rose's Kate Kane in BATWOMAN Will Be Replaced with an All New Character
The CW and DC Entertainment have made an interesting decision on how to proceed with the Batwoman series without Ruby Rose. When Rose left, all that was revealed was that the network would replace her. Well, we’ve now learned that Rose’s character, Kate Kane, will be replaced with a whole new character. That means Batwoman will have a whole new identity.
A casting notice that Deadline was able to obtain reveals that the new lead character is named Ryan Wilder, and she will be younger than Kate Kane. The character is in her mid-to late 20s, and she’s described as “likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed” and “nothing like Kate Kane, the woman who wore the batsuit before her.” Here are some additional details that were shared for the character:
A former drug-runner, the now-reformed and sober Ryan lives in her van with her plant and is a highly skilled but wildly undisciplined fighter. Like her predecessor, Ryan is an out lesbian, with performers who identify as LGBTQ encouraged to submit for the role.
The second season of Batwoman will chronicle how Ryan ends up becoming Batwoman. For any of you who read comic books, you know that it’s not uncommon for multiple people to take on the identity of a superhero.
I actually like this decision that the network is making to replace the old character with a new one. It’ll be interesting to see who they end up casting in the role.
