Rumor Claims That Chris Evans Has Officially Signed On to Return to the MCU as Captain America
Five years ago this week, we saw the release of Avengers: Endgame, which wrapped up the storyline of Chris Evans’s Steve Rogers, the Captain America we had all grown to know and love through the first three phases of the MCU, the entirety of the Infinity Saga.
Rogers decided to pass on the torch of Cap’s shield so that he could return to the 1940s to live with his love, Peggy (Hayley Atwell), and presumably live happily ever after.
We did see him at an old age in the film, so it seems like things probably worked out, but we never knew exactly how his life went from one point to the other, and some fans have been curious.
In the last five years, we never got a solid answer, but we may get that info soon. According to a rumor from industry scooper @MyTimeToShineH (via ComicBook), Chris Evans has finally agreed to reprise the role in Avengers: Secret Wars.
We don't know if he'll also appear in the untitled Avengers 5, but if he really is coming back, that would certainly be a possibility.
Before then, it's also rumored that we'll see the actor back in the MCU as soon as this summer if he shows up in Deadpool & Wolverine, but as the Human Torch.
Last November, Evans was asked about the rumours he's gearing up to play Captain America and said, "You know, I always see those reports too, and it’s news to me.
“I think every couple months, someone says that they’re getting Downey, and [Chris] Hemsworth, and Scarlett [Johansson], and everyone’s coming back! No one’s spoken to me about it. And look, I would never say never, but I’m very protective. It’s a very precious role to me, so it would have to be just right."
Maybe now is just the right time… What do you think?
