Rumor: FANTASTIC FOUR and X-MEN Could Appear in Crossover Film in 2018
Spider-Man coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe marked a turning point for superhero films in the modern era. Due to licensing issues of Marvel characters to various studios, it was widely assumed that all of the characters would stay at their respective studios for the foreseeable future. But the success of Marvel Studios' Avengers movies and the ambitious crossover plans of Warner Bros. and DC's cinematic universe has proven that crossovers are the big thing right now, so it stands to reason that other studios would be interested in cashing in on that same formula for their own gain.
Latino-Review reports that the X-Men may team up with The Fantastic Four in a crossover film as early as 2018, but they admit that this is "far from a done deal" and point out that a lot of things have to happen in order for this to all work out. Josh Trank's Fantastic Four has to make a respectable amount of money at the box office, and then the planned sequel (scheduled for 2017) needs to make it through production without becoming a disaster. Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse also needs to avoid "nosediving" the entire franchise, which should be a safe bet considering how solid Days of Future Past turned out.
So there are a lot of factors at play here, but the report says that "the current plan is to have 2018’s Fox comic book movie be a crossover film that features the X-Men and the Fantastic Four." That possibility should be enough to get fans excited about the future. Looking ahead, though, which incarnation of the X-Men do you think will interact with the Fantastic Four?
