Rumor Is That Riot Games Is Working on a Mobile LEAGUE OF LEGENDS Game
Reuters is reporting that Riot Games and their parent company Tencent are developing a mobile version of the popular MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) game, League of Legends. They reportedly have three sources saying this, although neither Tencent nor Riot have commented. This move to the mobile market makes sense as the analyst Gu Tianyi told Reuters:
I know I played League of Legends not too long after it came out, and it was fun. I then took a long break from the game, and when I came back it was so different and the community was so toxic, I just let it be and decided to not play it again. That’s why I can believe it when Tianyi says the game is not doing well. Combine it with the fact that more MOBAs are entering the market and giving more options and it becomes easier to understand why it’s harder to keep steam going.
Tencent has launched a mobile MOBA before called Honour of Kings that did really well in eastern countries, especially China, but when it came over to the west as Arena of Valor, it flopped. Interestingly enough, the launch of Honour of Kings has been a point of contention between Tencent and Riot over the years as some of Reuters’ sources explain.
Would you play a mobile version of League of Legends? I’d probably give it a try since I do enjoy some of the characters created for the game like Ashe and Twisted Fate.
