Lupita Nyong'o Reportedly in Talks For Lead Role in Disney's Live-Action Remake of THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG
Rumors are swirling around a possible live-action remake of Disney’s The Princess and the Frog. The studio hasn’t come out and confirmed the news, but between their plans to seemingly recreate their entire animated library with live-action remakes, and Disney’s current overhaul of their beloved Splash Mountain attraction as a ride centered around the animated Princess and the Frog movie, it would make sense that we would be seeing a live-action movie to tie in to the ride.
Amid those rumors is some talk about who will fill the lead role in the film. According to industry scooper MyTimetoShineHello on Twitter, Disney is reportedly eyeing Lupita Nyong’o for the leading role of Tiana. Nyong’o has previously worked with Disney several times, as the voice of Maz Kanata in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, as well as in the animated series Star Wars: Forces of Destiny. Nyong’o also played Nakia in Marvel Studios’ blockbuster Black Panther franchise, as well as Disney’s 2016 biopic Queen of Katwe and Jon Favreau’s live-action remake of The Jungle Book.
If chosen for the role, Nyong’o would play Princess Tiana, a waitress desperate to fulfill her dreams as a restaurant owner who is set on a journey to turn a frog prince back into a human being. But she has to face the same problem after she kisses him.
I think she would be a great match for the princess, but I guess we will just have to wait and see.
