Marvel Reportedly Hoping to Get Dwayne Johnson to Play Villain Apocalypse in X-MEN
Both Marvel and DC studios are at a pivotal changing point, with DC doing a complete overhaul, and Marvel changing the way their projects are produced, slowing down and focusing on story rather than content. It’s almost like a blank slate for Marvel, even though they successfully explored many stories and characters in the first three phases, they were wrapped up within the Infinity Saga, and now, well into phase 5, we are building toward something brand new, and we still have a lot of new territory to discover.
One of those new territories that have not yet been explored by the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that of the X-Men. We saw that universe in the movies made by Fox, with some of the films far better than others, but fans are really looking forward to seeing how they will be integrated into the established world of Marvel. We’ve had glimpses of a couple characters like Professor X and Beast, but the future of the entire X-Men crew is unknown.
But there is one rumor floating around right now that may or may not end up being true. Reliable industry scooper @MyTimeToShineH (via CBM) has reported that Black Adam and Jumanji star Dwayne Johnson is on Marvel Studios' radar to play En Sabah Nur, a.k.a. Apocalypse. It’s assumed this is for the upcoming X-Men reboot, though it's possible he'd play a Variant of the villain in one of the upcoming Avengers movies seeing as many of the original X-Men are expected to appear.
He would fit the character physically, and after the less-than-stellar reception of his beloved Black Adam film, he’d probably be thrilled to take on the role.
Apocalypse was created by writer Louise Simonson and artist Jackson Guice, first appearing in X-Factor #5 in 1986. The ancient mutant believes in the concept of "survival of the fittest," and his desire to bring about the evolution of mutantkind by any means necessary, often through destructive and genocidal methods.
He sees himself as a god-like figure and seeks to impose his vision of mutant supremacy upon the world and has assembled various groups of mutant followers, known as the "Four Horsemen," to serve his purposes. Oscar Isaac previously played the villain in 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse.
This is obviously just a rumor for now, but let us know if you’d like to see Dwayne Johnson in this role, or if you’d rather someone else step in to play the character.
