Rumored Details Surface About Magneto in X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX
Director Simon Kinberg gearing up to start shooting X-Men: Dark Phoenix this summer, which sees the return of several X-Men movie cast members including Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Evan Peters. Jessica Chastain is also in talks to play the main villain in the story, Shi’ar Empress Lilandra.
The film will obviously be inspired by The Dark Phoenix Saga, which is one of the most popular X-Men comic book stories. It centers on Jean Grey, who becomes possessed by a fiery cosmic bird that makes her one of the most powerful beings in the universe. This is an intense change for her, and she struggles to control that power, and that leads her down the path of evil, eventually becoming the Dark Phoenix.
Thanks to Nerdist, we have some details to share with you regarding Magneto and how he will fit into the story. If you've read the comic, Magneto didn't really play a part in the story. They also reveal a new setting that will be introduced in the film.
Here's what they had to say about Magneto:
"A source close to the film has told us that Michael Fassbender’s new Magneto costume is meant to suggest the imagery commonly associated with cult leaders. We’re thinking this means that Magneto is feeling particularly messianic and he may have attracted followers who buy into that. This probably means that the Acolytes will make their first live-action appearance in this movie. That’s fitting, considering that the X-Men comics introduced that team in the early ’90s, which just happens to be when the film is set.
They go on to report that the Genosha will play a part in the story. For those of you who aren't familiar with Genosha, it's a fictional country in the Marvel universe. It's an island nation off the east coast of Africa. The island was once known for the enslavement of mutants and was ruled by Magneto before being destroyed and most of the mutants were wiped out by Sentinels.
I'm curious to see how this will all fit into the Dark Pheonix story that Kinberg is setting out to tell. I can't wait to see what he's come up with. I just hope it turns out better than the last X-Men film.
This is just a rumor for now, but what do you think about the details that have been revealed and the direction they are possibly looking to take Magneto?
