Rupert Friend Is Reportedly Playing the Grand Inquisitor in Lucasfilm's OBI-WAN KENOBI Series
An interesting report has surfaced that is sure to get Star Wars fans excited for the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series. According to BespinBulletin, a live-action version of the Grand Inquisitor is in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series and will be played by Rupert Friend.
If this is true, it would be awesome! The report also says, “There are at least three Inquisitors with Rupert Friend portraying the Grand Inquisitor along with Moses Ingram (The Queen’s Gambit) playing an Inquisitor, and Sung Kang (Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift).”
There’s a rumor that Kang was playing the fifth brother, and their sources say that “the character has a headpiece that’s somewhat similar to the one the Fifth Brother sports in Star Wars: Rebels and that he spent hours in make-up.” As for Ingram, the report says that “she didn’t have to spend anywhere near as much time in the make-up chair as Friend and Kang.”
One other thing that’s mentioned is that Ingram is playing the most important Inquisitor out of the three, and “she could prove to be pivotal to a plot point within the series.” We just don’t know who exactly she’s playing. It could be a new Inquisitor character.
The story begins 10 years after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Kenobi faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.
Deborah Chow (Better Call Saul, American Gods, The Mandalorian) will direct the series as well as serve as showrunner, with Hossein Amini (Drive, McMafia) and Joby Harold (John Wick 3, Awake, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) writing.
Obi-Wan Kenobi also stars Ewan McGregor reprising his role as the Jedi Master he played in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, and he will be joined by Hayden Christensen, who is also set to return as Darth Vader. The series also stars Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse as Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. The rest of the cast includes Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.
The show is set to drop in May 2022.
