Rupert Friend Talks About Joining The OBI-WAN KENOBI Series and His Sweaty Grand Inquisitor Costume
We are just over a month out from the first episode of the latest Disney+ Star Wars series, Obi-Wan Kenobi. The show will take place 10 years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, and it will welcome back Ewan McGregor in the title role, as well as Hayden Christensen, returning to the role of Darth Vader, Joel Edgerton as Owen Lars, and Bonnie Piesse as Beru Lars.
The series is also welcoming new cast members that include Maya Erskine, Kumail Nanjiani, Benny Safdie, and O’Shea Jackson Jr. in undisclosed roles, as well as Rupert Friend, who is bringing the Grand Inquisitor to life — and according to the actor, this was no easy feat.
In a recent appearance on The One Show (via Digital Spy), Friend explained:
"It was a sweaty, sweaty suit and I did sweat buckets inside the prosthetics which would pour across my face at the end of a day and make me look like a very, very miserable clown. But so worth it!"
He went on to talk about what it was like to join the iconic Star Wars franchise, saying:
"It's amazing. They have literally built a universe over the years and the incredible thing about is the relationship between the stories and the fans is completely interlaced – they are as connected with those stories as those of us who make it and you really feel like you're in dialogue as you do it... It's an amazing thing to be a part of."
Its’s very cool that he recognizes what a special experience this was. The series looks great, and I’m excited to see what they do with it. Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres Friday, May 27th on Disney+. Are you getting pumped for this new chapter?
