Rupert Grint Wrote a Letter "Passing Baton" to New Ron Weasley Actor in HARRY POTTER Series
A new generation of young actors have taken on the iconic names of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger, and their predecessors are supporting them the whole way.
Last week, original Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe revealed that he had written a letter to the new Harry actor Dominic McLaughlin, and said “he sent me a very sweet note back.”
Now, Radcliffe’s co-star Rupert Grint, who played Harry’s best friend Ronald Weasley in the movies, has said that he also reached out to the young actor taking over his role, and explained to BBC News:
“I wrote him a letter, before they started, passing the baton as it were. It was really just wishing him all the best with it. I had so much fun stepping into this world, and I hope he has the same experience.”
Of the HBO series, Grint said: “It’s quite strange to have the cycle happening again … I’m really intrigued what it’s going to be like.”
He added that he sees “a bit of family resemblance” between himself and Stout. “I think it’s great that it’s a whole new thing. It’s going to be its own thing, and I think that will be fun,” he said.
Grint said he would consider returning to the Potter universe in the future, but it was not a current priority. Tom Felton recently got a raucous welcome as he reprised his role as Draco Malfoy for the first time in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway.
Filming has been ongoing for months on the Harry Potter series, which will star McLaughlin as the titular Hogwarts wizard. Stout plays Harry’s best friend Weasley, and Arabella Stanton rounds out the trio of heroes as bookworm Hermione Granger.
Other cast members include Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, and Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall. Paapa Essiedu will play Severus Snape.
The new series is set to debut on HBO and HBO Max in 2027.
