Russell Crowe Says There are Whispers of a MASTER AND COMMANDER Sequel
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World is a favorite film of mine. It's truly a masterpiece and ever since the first film was released in 2003, I've been wanting to see a sequel!
The film is based on of Patrick O’Brian's book series that consists of 20 novels that follow the adventures of the Jack Aubrey of the Royal Navy and his crew. The series is set during the Napoleonic Wars and centered on the friendship of Aubrey and the ship’s surgeon, Dr. Stephen Maturin, who was played by Paul Bettany in the film.
There are plenty of wonderful stories here to tell in movie form and according to Russell Crowe, there's actually a possibility that a sequel could happen! He recently tweeted out the following:
For the Aubrey Maturin lovers , I do hear whispers indeed that a second voyage is perhaps potentially pre-proposed a possibility . So O’Brian affectionate’s and aficionados , let @20thcenturyfox know of your pleasure . pic.twitter.com/HqyE8y15Uu

I would love nothing more than to see another Master and Commander film, but unfortunately, the first film didn't do too well at the box office. The movie only made a little under $94 million dollars domestically off of a budget of $150 million. I thought for sure the ship had sunk, but it's good to hear that there is still hope and whispers of a second voyage.
I have no idea if anything will go beyond the point of whispers, but I'll be hoping that they do. It would be the best news ever if a sequel ended up being officially announced in the near future! If you've never seen it, you need to watch it. It was actually nominated for a Best Picture Oscar and is currently streaming on HBO.
Would you be excited to see a sequel to director Peter Weir's Master and Commander?
