Ruth Bader Ginsburg will Have a Small Cameo in THE LEGO MOVIE 2: THE SECOND PART
Whether you like her or not, Ruth Bader Ginsburg is ever the popular figure. She was the subject of the documentary RBG which has been nominated for the Documentary Feature Award in this year’s Oscars, and her tale was told via the film On the Basis of Sex. It looks like a third movie will be including the Supreme Court Justice as she will have a cameo in The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part. Her cameo will be an unvoiced part and it won’t be of Ginsburg, but rather a cameo of her LEGO minifigure. Director Mike Mitchell told USA Today:
“These movies are so full of surprises. And we were thinking, ‘Who’s the last person you would think to see in a Lego film as a minifig?’ Ruth Bader Ginsburg! And we’re all huge fans. It made us laugh to think of having her enter this world.”
According to USA Today, Ginsburg’s minifigure will be part of the little sister’s universe and will fit into the story somehow. In a statement, producers and screenwriters Chris Miller and Phil Lord said, “We just were trying to think of people who should be immortalized in Lego and who seem fun at weddings.”
While Ginsburg will not be voicing her minifigure, her office was reached out to for licensing purposes and Mitchell said she was happy to agree: “She said, 'Of course, I'd love to be a Lego figure. That would be cool”. It would be cool to become a LEGO minifigure.
The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part will premiere in theaters on February 8, 2019.
