RWBY and GEN:LOCK are Getting Comics from DC

Rooster Teeth announced at New York Comic Con that they were teaming up with DC to make comic books based on Rooster Teeth IPs. The first two that have been revealed are the highly popular RWBY and the upcoming series gen:LOCK. This pairing shouldn’t be too surprising as both DC and Rooster Teeth are WarnerMedia companies. Head of Animation at Rooster Teeth, Gray G. Haddock, made the following statement at the panel:

All of us at Rooster Teeth Animation are incredibly honored that the tales we’ve been pouring our hearts into have found their comics home at DC. With these comic books, we’re looking forward to spending more time with the characters we love, taking deeper looks into their worlds, and going on more journeys. DC is a leader in the industry and the caretaker of an amazing pantheon, and working with them we know there are incredible adventures on the horizon. We’re going to have some fun.

Jim Lee, the DC Chief Creative Officer and Publisher, also made a statement.

We’re excited to collaborate with the highly creative teams at Rooster Teeth to expand the worlds around their amazingly popular characters and stories and introduce these stories to even more fans. The comic books and graphic novels will focus on bridging the stories between seasons, as well as exploring the adventures of the supporting characters who play a direct role in the overall plot and who can have a heavy impact on the storyline.

I’m really excited for these. I think it’s great that they want to help fans explore more of the worlds that they’ve come to love. My main question is how will this affect the YA novels recently announced? Will the comics be more about the world while the books are more about side characters?

The RWBY and gen:LOCK comics will be available physically and digitally in 2019.
