Ryan Coogler’s THE X-FILES Reboot Adds Steve Buscemi, Ben Foster, Amy Madigan, and More to Wild Guest Cast
The truth is still out there, and now Ryan Coogler is bringing in a seriously great lineup of talent to help uncover it.
Hulu’s upcoming reboot of The X-Files has added a batch of guest stars that includes Amy Madigan, Steve Buscemi, Ben Foster, Devery Jacobs (Reservation Dogs), Lochlyn Munro (Scary Movie), Tantoo Cardinal (Killers of the Flower Moon), Joel D. Montgrad (True Detective: Night Country) and Sofia Grace Clifton (The Muppets Mayhem).
That’s a pretty great collection of actors for a franchise built on strange mysteries, government conspiracies, and nightmare-fuel creatures lurking in the dark.
The new series stars Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler as two highly respected FBI agents who couldn’t be more different from each other. Despite their clashing personalities and approaches, the pair ends up forming an uneasy partnership after being assigned to a long-abandoned division that investigates unexplained phenomena.
Coogler is writing and directing the pilot while also serving as executive producer on the series for Onyx Collective Studio and 20th Television. Original X-Files creator Chris Carter is also onboard as an executive producer.
Jennifer Yale will serve as showrunner and EP, with Sev Ohanian and Zinzi Coogler executive producing under the Proximity Media banner. Simone Harris is attached as co-executive producer, while Proximity Media’s director of development Dezi Gallegos will help oversee the pilot. Deadwyler and Patel are also co-EPs on the project.
Madigan comes into the series after a huge year thanks to her role as Aunt Gladys in Weapons, the horror hit from Zach Cregger. She also picked up a Best Supporting Actress Oscar win for the film. Her long list of credits includes Field of Dreams, Gone Baby Gone, Uncle Buck, Antlers, and Streets of Fire.
Buscemi remains one of the most entertaining actors around, whether he’s playing criminals, weirdos, or exhausted authority figures trying to survive chaos. Fans recently saw him pop up in season two of Wednesday, and he’ll next appear alongside John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell in Wild Horses Nine from filmmaker Martin McDonagh.
Foster also feels like a perfect fit for the creepy and emotionally intense world of The X-Files. The actor recently starred opposite Sydney Sweeney in the boxing drama Christy and will next appear in Motor City with Alan Ritchson and Shailene Woodley. His past work includes Hell or High Water, 3:10 to Yuma, Emancipation, and Lone Survivor.
With Coogler steering the ship and this cast stepping into the shadows, Hulu’s new take on The X-Files is shaping up to be one of the most exciting genre shows currently in development.
