Ryan Gosling is in Talks To Star in Shawn Levy's STAR WARS Movie

Ryan Gosling (Barbie, Fall Guy) is confirmed to be in talks to join Shawn Levy’s Star Wars movie at Lucasfilm.

Levy has been developing the film with writer Jonathan Tropper for two years, and it’s been rumored that the project could start production as early as this fall.

We don’t know anything about the film’s story, but when talking about his creative goals, the Levy shared his desire to craft a story that avoids redundancy and explores uncharted territory within the Star Wars timeline.

He explained: "There’s only so many times that Star Wars movies can revisit the same section of the timeline. I don’t want to do a Star Wars film that is redundant to others, nor am I interested in doing one that has to serve another movie.”

Levy also shed light on the themes he wants to explore, highlighting the core of what makes Star Wars resonate with fans.

“There is certainly the Force and a connection to something bigger than our individual selves, and the way that that can make us powerful. Those themes, combined with visual delight and wish fulfillment, that’s Star Wars to me.”

The next Star Wars film to be released on the big screen is Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian & Grogu on May 22nd, 2026. There is an untitled Star Wars movie on the release calendar for December 2027. If Levy’s film is the next project to go into development, then that will be when it’s released.

As for Gosling jumping into the Star Wars franchise, I can’t say that gets me excited. I like Gosling, I’m just not sure if I want to see him in a Star Wars movie. What do you think?

Years ago, Gosling was rumored to be up for a role in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but nothing ever came of that.
