Ryan Gosling's WOLFMAN Film Project Lands a New Director

Universal Pictures has made a big change to Ryan Gosling’s Wolfman horror film project. Leigh Whannell (The Invisible Man) was supposed to direct the film, but he dropped out of the project due to scheduling.

The studio and producer Jason Blum have found a new direct to take on the project, and that director is Derek Cianfrance, who previously worked with Gosling on films such as Place Beyond the Pines and Blue Valentine. Both of those are very small grounded indie dramas so this will be a very different kind of film for him. Apparently he is already working on the script for the movie.

While Cianfrance has not made a horror movie, he talks about his love of the genre in the following statement:

“Horror movies were my first love — my entry into what cinema was capable of narratively, psychologically and aesthetically. Coupled with the opportunity to collaborate with Ryan again, this is truly a dream come true. I’m thrilled and inspired to work with the good folks at Blumhouse and Universal to bring this monster back to life in our collective unconscious,” said Cianfrance.

No details have been shared on the story, but it will be a modern take on the story and not a period piece. I’m more a a fan of the period setting, but I’m open and interesting in seeing what this creative team comes up with for this Wolfman film. What do you think?
