Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman and Shawn Levy Address the Future of Deadpool and Wolverine in the Avengers and MCU
The lone Marvel movie hitting theatres this year is Deadpool & Wolverine, and a lot is riding on it in regards to getting the MCU back on track with fans.
We are all looking forward to this movie, even if only just for the action and laughs it promises, but it also seems like the story will have lasting repercussions that we will see set up in the film.
As for whether those ripples will launch the characters Deadpool and Wolverine into the next films, we will also just have to wait and see, but the guys were asked about the possibility in a recent interview with Variety.
Director Shawn Levy and stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman talked all about the film in Variety’s in-depth chat, and they were asked about their futures in the MCU, and whether they might appear in the next Avengers movies.
Reynolds responded, “I don’t know. Yeah, we’ll see. Yeah.” For being a dodgy answer, he did say “yeah” twice, so that might be telling… maybe. Levy added, “Now is where you go to the descriptive part of the article and say, ‘They were shuffling in their seats.’”
Jackman tried to save the conversation, addressing the awkwardness, saying, “Clearly, this is our first major interview of this press tour. I’m not sure how to answer.”
Levy then said, “We’re going to get a far more packed and evasive answer for all future interviews.” Reynolds joked, “An echoing cough in the distance; a hawk circles. You can throw that in there if you like.”
When Reynolds was asked later how much longer he could see himself playing the Merc with a Mouth, he responded, “I don’t know. I could see any version of it. I can imagine a solo movie, being part of an ensemble. I can imagine that this is also the last time. I never feel anything other than that.”
With the reception I anticipate this movie getting, I feel pretty confident saying that this isn’t the last we see of Deadpool, at least. We are just two weeks away from the film’s release now.
