Ryan Reynolds Opens Up About the Heartfelt John Candy Documentary He Is Making With Colin Hanks
Ryan Reynolds is known for his outrageous comedic style, best displayed in his Deadpool franchise, but the actor has a soft side, and he let it show in a recent interview where he talked about the upcoming John Candy documentary he is producing alongside Colin Hanks.
During a recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Reynolds talked about how much of a comedic icon Candy was, and how they’ve gathered many friends and entertainers to speak about him. He explained:
“I’m making a documentary about John Candy. Colin Hanks is also doing it with me. I get to meet heroes. There was a group of eight to ten people that really were generation-defining creators. It’s wonderful to talk to storytellers about a beautiful man, who was a beautiful storyteller, who passed at 43, way too young.”
Hanks is directing the film, which was picked up by Amazon, and is being made with the family’s blessing. Reynolds went on to say about Candy:
“He was so generous with people and he was a good person when no one was watching. And I think that’s really important.”
Reynolds and Hanks’ untitled doc will include never-before-seen home videos, archives and family interviews. Candy, who starred in films such as Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Home Alone, The Great Outdoors, Uncle Buck, Spaceballs, National Lampoon’s Vacation, and Cool Runnings, has always been spoken about as a kind and loving man. His daughter once shared that his character Uncle Buck reflected his real personality the most.
I grew up watching Candy in all of the movies above, and I wish we could have seen him make dozens more. It will be great to see this documentary though, and be able to remember and reflect on the amazing career he left behind.
The doc is currently in production, and we will let you know as soon as a title and release date are revealed.
