Ryan Reynolds Says DEADPOOL 2 Script Is Well Under Way
Not long before the Deadpool movie exploded on the big screen and obliterated the box office, it was revealed that the sequel had already been greenlit by Fox. Screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were brought back in to write the script, and in a recent interview with Empire, Ryan Reynolds said that they are already well into it. His exact quote is:
"We are on a script, we are well into a script."
There's no doubt Fox wants to move fast on the sequel while the fire for Deadpool is still burning hot. It sounds like they are already really into the meat of the story, so I imagine that they've been working on developing the script for this film for awhile.
Reynolds went on to talk about some of the frustrating changes that the first Deadpool script went through before it went into production and how they ended up using Negasonic Teenage Warhead:
"We had endless [conversations about other X-Men]. Taskmaster was in the script originally, too expensive. We had versions where we wanted Hugh Jackman in there, we wanted all kinds of cameos from different people, but it just becomes a big mess for the studio.
"We went through such hell developing the script and which X-Men we could keep and which we couldn't and it just turned into a nightmare. The studio would just say, 'too expensive, too expensive, too expensive' to everyone. So finally we were like well, 'what about Negasonic Teenage Warhead' and they said, 'Negasonic what?'"
It would have been fun to see their full vision realized in the first Deadpool film, but it was still freakin' awesome! It sounds like the sequel is going to get a bigger budget, though, so we can expect bigger and better things... like Cable!
