Ryan Reynolds Says Marvel Is "Obsessed" With Channing Tatum's Gambit Since He Appeared in DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE

Channing Tatum had been trying for over a decade to get Marvel to enlist him to play the Ragin’ Cajun, Remy LeBeau, better known as Gambit in his own solo film.

The project kept coming together and falling apart, leaving Tatum to feel like maybe he would never get to take on the mantle of the unique X-Men character. But his dream was realized when he finally got to play Gambit in this summer’s blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine.

The performance was widely enjoyed, and it gave us a taste of what a full Gambit movie could look like. Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds relates to Tatum’s quest, as he was on a crusade to play his character for a long time as well. Reynolds doesn’t know the future of Gambit, but he did tease on Entertainment Weekly's Awardist podcast:

"I honestly don't know what goes on behind closed doors in the bookkeeping sessions at Marvel, but I do know that they're obsessed with him in that role.

“It's kind of like the same situation I went through. Once you show that it works well, that's really what they need. Sometimes they just need to see it in action."

Reynolds is referring to that test footage of his Deadpool that leaked in 2014 and proved to the studio that there was enough hype to move forward with a movie.

Earlier this year, Reynolds admitted he "might have provided an assist" in that leak. In a similar way, he hopes Deadpool & Wolverine can be a proof of concept to Marvel to bring back Tatum as Gambit.

Reynolds continued: "And Channing is so singular in how he plays that character, but also he's so beautiful physically, the way he moves and the way he can pick up steps."

Reynolds expressed that he hopes to see Channing Tatum get his Gambit movie, and I hope so as well! Do you want to see this movie get made?
