Ryan Reynolds Shares What It's Really Like to Work with Michael Bay on a Film
Ryan Reynolds and director Michael Bay recently worked together on the insane Netflix action film 6 Underground. The movie is currently available to watch, and it’s hands down the most Michael Bay-style movie that Bay has ever made. It’s ridiculous, yet so much fun!
I imagine working with Bay on a movie is a fast-paced, adrenaline-fueled experience, and according to Reynolds… it is! The actor spoke at the Netflix Panel at CCXP and shared what it is really like to be directed by Bay:
“When you’re shooting with Michael Bay, you never know what’s going to happen. It’s sort of chaos. You never know what you’re going to get, but there’s a rhyme and reason to it all at the end. ... Most of Bay’s direction is just, ‘FASTER!’”
That makes me laugh. When you watch a Bay film, you can totally imagine him yelling “faster!” That’s got to be his go-to direction command. When he’s got nothing else left to say he yells “faster!” Reynolds went on to talk about what it was like developing his character with Bay saying:
“I usually have a pretty clear backstory before I show up to work, but then you’ve created this backstory and then Michael Bay will just be like, ‘NO, you’re an orphan, GO!’ And you’re just like, ‘Wait, what?’ It’s all sort of thrown out the window, but that’s a good thing. Sometimes it’s good to sort of kill your darlings and surrender to a process you are unfamiliar with.”
I would love to be on the set of a Michael Bay movie to see him work. That seems like it would be more entertaining than watching the films that he makes!
